Over the weekend, I attended a wedding of one of my closest friends. It was a majestic, rustic wedding filled with love from everyone. I shed a couple of tears for the bride and groom as you could clearly see the deep love they have for each other and witnessing it only made me more excited to have my own wedding at the end of the year.
As a major lover of food, I opted for the beef option which was titled: ‘beef fillet rolled in chilli chocolate sauce’. I was excited to taste the combination of savoury with sweet as I am a fan of the typical sweet chilli sauce thrown over basically anything!
So this is the only problem I had with the meal. I do not know if my palette cannot handle the intricate flavours this meal delivered but it really was not the greatest combination. The chocolate was a bit too sweet for me, there was a clear lack of the ‘chilli’ flavours and I found myself trying to scrape the sauce off the meat then piling the meat with tons of salt. My mixing skills were not that bad as I actually enjoyed the meal afterwards.
I am a fan of trying new things, especially with food and I love adding different curve balls into the meal that get my family asking “what’s that extra unique taste?”. Now I am a little apprehensive because what sounds like a winner on the menu turns out to be a complete fail and I as a self-proclaimed ‘taste bud connoisseur’, would love to entice my guests with a meal that tastes as amazing as it sounds.
I do often experiment with unusual flavours like sweet and savoury, but this experience has left a bland taste in my mouth.
I guess what I wanted to get across with this blog is to voice my disappointment with the meal but also let people know that I will not let this experience stop me from pushing my boundaries.
