Room service: Worth the wait?

Over the Easter weekend, my fiancé’s business partner invited us to Sun City to obviously soak in the last bit of Summer as we enter a chilly Autumn. Unfortunately, my child fell sick on day two and while my fiancé left for a game of golf, I had to stay within our 4 walls and tend to her. It wasn’t the worst decision as I also had some time to nurse my ‘wineover’. I became excited at the prospect of enjoying what I see in movies all the time: The Room Service Experience.

It started off with breakfast, which I was really looking forward to because I was nursing my ‘wineover’. I ate their continental breakfast which included eggs, bacon, toast, fruits, yogurt, ham, cheese and crackers. Yes, it was a filling meal but not the best. I do commend them for maintaining the heat on my eggs and bacon but the meal was not the best prepared as the bacon was dry like it was made the day before and we all know that bacon is a anchor of any meal. My toast also came freezing cold, I think they should have put it in the cabinet that held the eggs and bacon. It wasn’t the biggest let down as it did cure my ‘wineover’.

Later in the day, my child had finally woken up so I decided that lunch should greet her healing tummy. This time I opted not to order from the hotel and I ordered from the recommended franchise, which I previously rated their food as the common franchise mistake. We all know that when hunger calls, you listen. I decided I was going to give them another chance.

Woah, was I wrong! Never have I ever had two bad food choices in a row! Same lower grade quality of food. I had their chicken wings soaked in a sweet sauce with a side of chips. When were the chips prepared, a month before? I am starting to think that our room was chosen to be the one delivered with bad food or maybe it was a bad day to serve customers but I was thoroughly unimpressed. No condiments for my dry, over-fried chips that I had to use the sauce from the chicken to add some kind of flavour to my fries.

I don’t know if I am naive or something but I expected something a little more classy as if I were down by their actual restaurant. I didn’t want to be dazzled, I just wanted to have the same experience as if I were downstairs ordering the same meal.

While I am not commenting on their actual service, because they were efficient and courteous, Room Service was not worth the wait for me in this 4 star hotel.
