My fiancé and I are sports fanatics and any opportunity to head to the stadium is welcomed on both our sides. We invited two friends that we knew we wanted to show a great time. The stadium portion of the evening was amazing as we socialised with others, drank cheap beer and watched our team (The Emirate Lions) head off to victory. To keep the excitement going we proceeded to Melville, Johannesburg which is a student central spot that’s full of bars and clubs. What happened then inspired me to write this review.
7th Avenue in Melville used to be my spot. I loved coming here. I used to stay a couple of streets away so this is where we spent every Friday and Saturday night and bringing my friends here I knew they would have a great time.
We landed up at Six bar which is not familiar to me but we loved the vibe: People were dancing, laughing, eating and drinking so this became the obvious choice.
We were greeted by a huge bouncer, standard procedure, but were lucky enough to find a table on this busy night. Our waiter came to greet us, a charming, good-looking gentleman who brought us the drinks and food menu. So far, this place was hitting all the right spots.
The guys joined us about a minute later so we ordered our drinks. After the waiter took our order I don’t know if it was the music or if he just had ants in his pants but he didn’t even head to the bar to make the order. We watched him crunk (dance) with some group of women and almost break into a full on break dance but because the conversation was flowing we just let him be hoping that he will do his job. After 20 minutes, I tracked him down, asked him about our drinks and he said they’re on their way. A further 10 minutes later, we asked another waitress to follow up with our drinks and we have no reason to believe she didn’t because she went straight to the bar. 20 minutes after the waitress checked up on our drinks and our waiter had disappeared, we got up and left, dry mouthed and all.
I have no idea if the drinks were every made or even ordered but that was none of my problem.
My reviews usually cover a range of factors but this one covered only the service. I am appalled that service like this still exist. We were very patient but not to the point where I have to beg someone for a drink, personally I am not that desperate!
After that were just tired of waiting and called it a night. We started off on a high and sadly ended off feeling like that weird aunt that no one engages with.
For what its worth, my LadyVera Rating of Six Bar in Melville is a poor 2/10.
