After weeks of reading great reviews on this restaurant, I finally took my fiancé to Beast in Weltevreden Park. Not only am I a lover of meat, I am a lover of great service which is what I expected from this restaurant.
Greeted by a team of smiling waiters, my smile was way bigger because not only was I starving myself all morning, but as you enter, you look at the most interesting decor ever. It only grew my excitement.
I am always weary of being so excited because you land up feeling disappointed and never recommend the restaurant to anyone. This was not the case This Sunday afternoon.
I ran off into the toilet to wash my hands when I saw a punching bag. Although I didn’t ask the staff why there is a punching bag in the ladies bathroom, I can imagine punching it when I have a fight with my fiancé and then walk out all composed and happy.
Fortune was our waiter who was quick to point out the most popular dishes. He pointed out the lamb chops were a favourite then he pointed out the ‘Beast’ burger was also a popular one.
When ordering, the beast burger came up when we informed of the free meal if you consume a double beast burger (800g of meat), chips and coke under 15 minutes.
Me, being the competitive one, immediately volunteered my fiancé to this competition. It sounded like a fun idea until he explained what 800g of meat actually is. So in good fashion, I started preparing him by offering gum (go get the gastric juices going) and by drinking his beer (because we all know that beer is filling).
As they brought the burger it was as big as the handbag I was holding. Forcing a nervous smile, I said to my fiancé: “This looks totally do-able. Don’t worry”. I had ordered the 300g rump with a side of mac n cheese, which I couldn’t finish, but to my defence, I downed beer a couple of minutes before that.
The entire 15 minutes, I smiled nervously as I watched him devour half a cow, a small potato and a giant bun with a ban of coke.
With 6 seconds to spare he finished and although I was celebrating saving R150 (off the meal I was paying), I saw his face and immediately felt guilty. When I pressed on his stomach, it was as hard as my tummy was when I was pregnant.
Congratulations to my fiancé and baby daddy for finishing and “slaying the beast challenge”!
Besides the challenge, Beast restaurant is amazing! Friendly staff, the chef came to greet us (cheery on top) and my food was amazing.
I had such a great experience that I am booking my parents into the restaurant for part one of their 30th anniversary.
