A Little bit of Germany never hurt

In case you don’t know, I am a mother. And as a mother, I celebrated my second mother’s day yesterday. My mother’s day started off with smoked salmon eggs benedict but that wasn’t what I wanted to talk about.

We had long planned that this mother’s day would be spent with my mother-in-law because it was her birthday as well as mother’s day and I love her to bits.

She said that she was craving Eisbein which is a German culinary dish of pickled ham hock, usually boiled. In parts of Germany it is known as Schweinshaxe, and it is usually grilled. So there is an amazing pub in Roodepoort called Berlin where they serve the most amazing food. This was my second time coming here and my first experience was amazing so I was excited to try something different this time.

We all pretty much ordered the same thing: Either 600g of pork belly ribs or a whopping 1.2kg Eisbein.

You guessed it, I went for the Eisbein. And it was totally worth it. No, I couldn’t finish the entire meal but I did enjoy some for work today so I am totally satisfied with my choice!

The pub itself is synonymous for having a great vibe for children during the day and being a grown up place at night. They have amazing service and is a gem nestled within a residential estate.

So there was amazing German beer, German decor, delicious German Eisbein. It ended off being a great mother’s day.
