A while ago I published a piece on baking a piece of hake and making it taste amazing. Last night, my parents came over and I wanted to WOW them with that meal so I headed off to the grocery store to get the ingredients.
The fish was frozen so I left it out for a while for it to defrost. When I arrived home, my cooking routine involves thinking about the meal while I grab my laptop, bring it to the kitchen and find something cool to watch while I cook. It’s not an OCD thing but I love my routine. It makes me create the best meals, and i take pride in creating the best meals for my family and friends.
This time, my routine was interrupted by my parents arriving early and so I could not get my laptop to start my cooking. With my mom as my assistant, i started with my fish baking. This was the exact recipe that I tried the last time (link here) but this time, the fish turned out dry and flaky.
To my surprise and my stupidity I realised that I didn’t let the fish defrost all the way leaving me with flavoured fish that has no taste in the inside. I love showing off my cooking skills but this one was not for the record books.
So this I what I learned:
- Please thaw your fish
- don’t rush to get the meal done
- If you have weird routines, you should stick to them
As a Fish only person – I will note this lesson!
