I don’t know if I have mentioned before, but I love this wine. Yes, I think I have said it about other wines BUT they make the most affordable wines!
Before I knew anything about wine, I used to look at the label and just buy. Durbanville Hills always had the whole “vintage” and “classy” label so it was go-to choice. Little did I know that I would start a great wine affair and land up making this my wine of choice for most occasions. They’re smart because they stock this wine in a lot of retailers, so it’s not hard to find your favourite bottle. On the same trip we took to Groot Constantia, we took our friends down the Durbanville wine route and because we’ve skipped this place (by mistake) before, we settled here for a tasting. You can see this place is popular because it’s huge. Easy wheelchair access, views to kill and the some of the most knowledgeable staff I have ever met.
We were happy to do just another wine tasting when we heard there’s a biltong pairing and you cannot say no to biltong in South Africa!
The wine was introduced by Cyril, who like I mentioned above, has extensive knowledge of the wine and wine farm.

For the first time, I was introduced to the Rhinofields collection. It was paired with lean Kudu biltong if I remember correctly which was my favourite pairing. I never knew of the Rhinofields collection and it is a little more expensive as its the reserve collection.
I really was enjoying myself to a certain point. I’ve eaten cabanossi a million times but for some reason when I had it the day before in Cape Town, I had an allergic reaction and my entire left side from head to toe, itches. I only realised that it was the cabanossi when the fourth wine was presented which was paired with the meat. The taste was phenomenal but shortly after, I started itching again. So I rushed to finish the pairing so I can run to the car to get my allergy medication.
My short illness didn’t stop me from enjoying the entire experience. Again, I say, I love Durbanville Hills Wine. They are experts at pricing and what I said in my Zomato review is that they are priced too low in my opinion.
