The coolest thing in town these days is GIN!
Look left and right and all you see is gin. As a self-proclaimed wine snob, I tend to check out whatever else is out there and it’s really hard to ignore the Gin-revolution that is currently going on out there.
Now Gin is not exactly the cheapest out there, but from what I tasted, it’s worth every penny.
For this post, I wanted to do a quick highlight on the South African Gin industry (based on Google) and also look at what others are doing to stay relevant.
- Tanqueray No. 10 Gin.
- Monkey 47 Gin.
- Caorunn Gin.
- Sipsmith London Dry Gin.
- Hendricks Gin.
- Beefeater 24 Gin.
- Brooklyn Gin.
- Portobello Road No. 171 Gin.
Here are 10 distillers giving this fine tipple a local flavour:
- WOODSTOCK GIN CO.
- INVERROCHE.
- MUSGRAVE.
- HOPE ON HOPKINS.
- TRIPLE 3 THREE.
- CRUXLAND.
- NEW HARBOUR DISTILLERY.
- CAPE TOWN GIN CO.
POST: Artisan Gin- South Africa
Just as the craft beer revolution has taken off in South Africa over the past 10 years, so craft gin is experiencing a similar renaissance. Led by the likes of Inverroche (yes, they’re totally home-grown, made in the coastal town of Stilbaai), South Africa’s craft gin brigade is experimenting with new flavours, many of which are uniquely African. Think fynbos, rooibos, naartjie, marula, buchu and more (https://www.bottleshop.co.za/local-craft-gin ).

Checkers has this kit for R69,99. This looks really big and while running in for tomato, I came across this!
