The restaurant has changed names a lot. The last name I remember was Bife. It wasn’t there for a long time so when Boss on 14th popped up, I always said that I wanted to visit it. Well The Boss on 14th has been here for a while so that was a sign that something was done right.
After being seated, I had a moment to look around. The first thing that caught my eye was the decor. The wallpaper boasted classical features which created a calming, cosy atmosphere. In the entrance is a play area which feeds into its theme of being a family restaurant. Now let’s get down to business:
The menu
Before I even looked at the food, I looked at the wine menu. It’s always a toss up between ordering and bottle or glass. Most restaurants charge a fortune for the glass so you’re left going with a bottle. The house wine being Spier, I thought it would cost an arm and a leg per glass but, I must say it was reasonable enough for me to drink by glass.
We opted for 2 courses: Starter and a main just because the food really sounded delicious. For the mains they brought out stuffed calamari and fillet trinchado. I had the stuffed calamari and the food was a appetising as its appearance. Stuffed with feta and shrimp and smothered in a creamy cheesy sauce, I didn’t even feel embarrassed running my finger on the plate a couple of times. I didn’t want to try too much of the fillet trinchado because I had a fillet coming up but from my one spoonful, it was enough to ask for more.
If the starter was anything to go by, the main was going to be all that with a cherry on top, I hope not literally. A 200g ladies fillet steak and grilled pangasius was next for us. Having no clue what the pangasius is, I let hubby order it so if it was good, I could have some and if it was bad, I could laugh at him. My fillet steak was out of this world. It felt like an aged cut as my steak knife never struggled to cut through. Each bite was better than the last. Each chew set an explosion of flavour around my mouth that made me take my time to savour each moment. While floating away in every bite, I looked over at the grilled pangasius and couldn’t help but smile as I watched hubby fly away with every bite, just like me. We exchanged bites so we didn’t have to enjoy the tastes alone and we realised that our craving for really good surf and turf had finally been fulfilled at a reasonable price.
The staff
A warm greeting from the staff and the entrance and we were quickly seated by Mac, our waiter for the evening. He clarified a couple of things on the menu and was patient when taking our order.
