There’s a new restaurant in town. It’s sophisticated, stylish and in the heart of the most iconic street in the world: Vilakazi Street, Soweto. SUD restaurant will host it’s grand launch on 1 September 2019 at the location on 6778 Vilakazi Street Soweto.

The restaurant manager, Tsholo Malema says that the concept of the restaurant stems from an affinity towards flavors of the south carefully curated to appeal to a multitude of palates. Derived from the melting pot of South African cultures, SUD’s flavors are diverse yet uniquely succinct. “Sud” points to the word South, an ode to the restaurant’s southern African roots and cuisine. Head Chef, Patrick Moirwagale explains that the menu is fit for several palettes. The cuisine caters to a variety of tastes with items such as Mozambican Prawns, Perkin Duck and grass fed Karan beef carefully grilled on the in house Bertha oven.
The stars of the menu are the ubuntu meals: mogodu, trotters and hard body chicken. Patrick says that the menu was curated to fit taste buds from around the world, whilst enjoying the hospitality of the South. If your taste buds have not started tingling yet, then their desert menu will certainly do the trick. The Chocolate and Pear Tart and Rooibos Panna Cotta are not be missed! If you’d like to keep it traditional, the Milk Tart served with ice cream and coconut brittle will bring back all your favourite childhood
memories. Have a look at the full food menu for more.
Moirwagale is a trained chef from Institute of Hotel and Tourism says the inspiration for the menu came from his travels overseas and working around some of South Africa’s top boutique hotels and restaurants
Of course, no fine dining experience would be possible without a good wine. SUD boasts a beautiful cellar with premium wines from South Africa’s top estates and as well as some international guest stars. The wine list has a great vintage wine selection as well as champagne.
The temperature of the wines is carefully monitored and controlled and the staff are well trained to advise you on which wines to pair with your meal. Soweto is an ever evolving place, a township with a rich history and many success stories. The local economy is growing steadily and there has been a demand for luxurious experiences to be
closer to home. SUD aims to do just that. It will open its doors to the public: locals, tourists and foodies on 1 September 2019.
Vilakazi Street is easily accessible by uber, ample parking is available for your own car. Candice Simone
