When 750ml is not enough

On a hot and humid summers day, very few things give me the wine smile. To explain it simply, the wine smile closely resembles the most satisfying smile you have in your archives. It is not arrogant, smug or sarcastic. It’s just pure authentic pleasure.

Now that you’ve spent the last 2 minutes smiling and figuring out if it’s your wine smile, let’s get into the reason I have a wine smile. Zandvliet makes some of the best shiraz you’ve ever tasted, in fact they do call themselves ‘The home of Shiraz in South Africa’, with reason. The team, that’s located just outside the Robertson wine route, put something together that teases the eye, the nose and most importantly, the palate. The vineyard that produced the wine lies on a gentle, south-facing slope in rocky, chalk-rich soils that underscore all Zandvliet’s premier wines.

“From the start, we were determined to create a wine that reflected the history of Zandvliet and its long heritage with Shiraz,” says winemaker Jacques Cilliers, who has been with Zandvliet since 2012. “We also wanted it to be a tribute to the unique characters who have shaped its story.

“We like to think of the long romance between Zandvliet and Shirazhaving culminated this year in this ‘pink-feet’ rosé,” he adds.

I had this one super super cold which only exploded their flavour as one look at the colour reminds you of a beautiful sunset somewhere remote and peaceful.

Go to the store or straight to the estate itself and you can get Zandvliet Shiraz Rosé for around R85.

I feel like getting more so I can make a full review paired with something so great, you’ll smell it through your screen.

Remember to swirl, smell, sip and repeat.
