We’re all in this weird time. Wherever you are in the planet. Our lives were completely changed because of Covid-19. We were all in some weird lockdown situation forced to change our habits for the good of the planet.
My life changed too. I became a homeschooling, cleaning, working, babysitting mom all in one and found solace in in part of my home… The kitchen. I chose this time to specifically develop my cooking and plating skills and boy have I loved the feedback and criticisms.
Thank you for all your input. Below I’m listing 5 simple meals, when plated this way, look very Michelin starworthy. By the way, in no way am I saying they are Michelin star I’m just loving the positive feedback on these meals

5. Springbok venison carpaccio. My friend Nats orders this meal a lot. So I dedicated this to her after I saw the stunning slices of carpaccio at the butcher. This particular meal has rocket/arugula, capers, balsamic glaze, halloumi and sprinkles of parmesean since I couldn’t find at the store I was in.

4. Spicy shrimp surf and turf. This was a 250g matured rump that I paired with the spicy shrimp and coupled it with long stemmed broccoli and creamy roasted potato. It was simple plating and huge in flavour.

3. Coconut Thai green curry with mussels. If you had walked into my house this day you would have started trying to lick the air. It was the most delicious smell that lingered even a day after. The flavour, the colour, it was just a masterpiece. I need to keep this in the archives and serve it to friends. Definitely a show off meal.

2. Peppered pork fillet with roasted rainbow carrot and coriander mash. Not sure what the highlight of the meal was. Each component was carefully cooked, not overdone that separately you’d love them each. I took good care in roasting the pork fillet, roasting the carrot leaving them crunchy but bursting in flavour and the coriander was subtle but flavourful.

1. Surf and turf: steak and hake. I came across this wagyu style steak while looking for ground beef and decided to try it. Because it was so small, I knew another protein was needed. This meal and beautiful roasted oyster mushrooms, spicy butternut puree, roasted potato and chive oil.
I am working on something really nice for all you home cooks and I’d like to trial it with people based in South Africa. Leave your details on my contact us page for more information.
I’m so excited to learn, to meet more people (online of course) and share more food adventures.
