After a successful day entertaining my cousin, I felt a little inspired to create something over the fire. In great caveman style, my fiancé started the fire while ran to prepare the food.
First on the menu, was the prawns. They were marinated overnight in lemon juice, lemon zest, red chillies, garlic, salt and pepper. Lucky for me, I have a cast-iron pan (which weighs like 50 kilograms) so all I needed to do is put some butter and olive oil in a pan and these were ready to go!
Second on the menu was the pot bread. My fiancé took the lead on this one and took bread dough that I had in the fridge, cut it in half, lined a cast-iron pot with butter and inside the bread he prepared a yummy mushroom, cheese and pepper mix that would then be enveloped by the other half of the dough. Once this was all closed up, he left it in the sun just to let it rise a little.
Last on the menu was the red meat. We had lamb ribs and a juicy steak that I loved marinating.
The marinade for the steak was a mixture of herbs and sauces, that I will patent, if I’m allowed, because it tasted like God’s ‘special’ gift for mankind’s meat.
Anyways, it was a fun little cooking experiment that ended in us actually burning the bread a little. Now we know that the cast-iron pot still cooks even though you remove it from the heat.
I have included some photos fro the day below but feel free to ask me anything on my awesome energy saving meal!
Just amazing! Very inspiring 🙂
