Brandy for the ages

As you many know:

1. I love wine

2. I love gin

3. I love rum

4. I like vodka

5. I like whiskey

No where on that list do you see Brandy.

What I’ve found is the Afrikaans community in South Africa love their Brandy and coke so getting to know a lot of Afrikaans people, I tasted this drink. It was always a bit too sweet for me so I never chose it as a drink when I felt spontaneous.

That was until hubby introduced me to KWV 10 year potstil. I then introduced it to my parents, who also were not Brandy fans until this. I’m speechless. It’s so smooth, and you have it with coke with zero sugar and it still tastes amazing. Which is why I wanted to dedicate this post to this potstill.

To the smell it has a caramel/dark chocolate smell that eases into the taste. Tropical fruity flavours that don’t sit on the palate. Each sip is pure enjoyment like you’re drinking a really great aged wine and feeling the cool summer afternoon breeze. The same patience and hard work it takes to make their wines, they definitely do the same in their brandy, well this one in particular.

I last had this drink a couple of weeks ago and the taste still lingers in my mind. When I went to the liquor store to see the price of it vs others, I was pleasantly surprised. The cheapest brandy I saw was about R90 and this particular potstill was R260. Not knowing the price of brandy, I expected it to be over R350 so for R260, it makes more sense to switch to brandy once in a while.
