Amazing Coke Marinade turned Glaze

A couple of months ago, I read an article/blog about all the uses of coke. They ranged from quenching you thirst, obviously, to crazy ones like removing grease from your engine- freaky, I know.

We all want the recipe to coke, because there is just something about that drink that drives people nuts over it. When I looked at these crazy delicious looking steaks that I purchased from Woolworths Food, I wanted something different than the usual basting and marinades that I usually buy. So, I remembered a recipe that hubby once made using coke and made my own variation.

The Ingredients:
– 330ml coke (the normal one, not coke zero or lite or the new coke energy)
– 2 garlic cloves, diced
– 4 tablespoons soy sauce
– 30ml lemon juice
– 30ml worcestershire sauce

Here’s the reason why I used all the above. The fizzy coke, not only penetrates the meaty skin, it also toughens it and make a brown coating on it. The sweetness from the coke was counteracted by the salty soy sauce and you add in the lemon juice for some acidity. the garlic is for flavour (yum) and so is the worcestershire sauce. This was a boss combo that I left marinating for 3 hours. When the steaks were ready to fry, I took the watery marinade and reduced it until it started to thicken. Coke has a lot of sugar so be careful not to over-reduce. You’ll be left with a sticky syrup that will harden when cold.

After cooking your steak, let it rest and then rub those cooked steak pieces in them before serving!

Enjoy, thank me later!
