SUD Restaurant Launch

On the 1st Of September I was lucky enough to be part of what I think will be something great. As humans, we love being boujee. We love opulence. We love class. We love feeling like every meal we eat has been specifically designed for your tastesbuds. We love finding the needle in the haystack and I think SUD is what we have been looking for.

Creme de la creme in Soweto

Set on the iconic Vilakazi street which holds a giant piece of South African history, SUD restaurant brings together modern African cuisine which is what our taste buds grew up on with contemporary foods ranging from Italian to Asian and everything in between. All it takes is one bite for you to either love or hate a place. Decked out on a gorgeous platter was a collection of sweet and savoury foods that aimed to tickle each part of your palate. It was a typical feast for your eyes activated your salivary glands… yes that’s drool. Among my faves were fried fish and coleslaw(which sounds bland BUT was awesome)the dumbling (pot bread) with stew and the roast beef rolls, smothered in English mustard. You know food is good when you go for seconds and don’t care that others haven’t eaten. Yes, I did that, no judgement please!

What did I wash this all down with you ask?

Thank you for asking. Upon entering was a super friendly team from Graham Beck with their brut MCC, in an ice bucket, calling my name. On the left of that booth was Ashley from the Distilling Natives a new Gin brand that has a hibiscus gin that is to die for. If MCC and Gin are not your cup of tea, in the restaurant is a bar with all your faves and in the distance behind you is a wall of the best wine South Africa has to offer. If I had the tolerance I would’ve sipped on more however, sadly my liver was happy with what I drank. What I like about SUD is that there are 4 different settings, each so unique, you feel like you’re in a different place at each setting. We started off at the outside lounge area. Comfortable chairs, umbrellas and the sound of the wind rustling through the trees. Head over to the right and you have a bar seating. Think, end of work drinks on a hot Friday afternoon. You and your colleagues popping one open after a difficult week at the office. Next we have the indoors. The main restaurant area has big lounge chairs and intimate lighting for the ultimate romantic dinner. If you are feeling boujee, behind the giant wall of wines I mentioned earlier, is a VIP area with a private TV.

Final Thought

Judging from the launch, I owe this place another visit. I read their menu and nothing gets me more excited than a well constructed menu that appears to be well thought. To the team that created this launch, well done and thank you for bringing more class and sophistication in the form of an awesome meeting place.
