Imbuko Sauvignon Blanc Review

As part of my effort to increase my wine collection and knowledge with pocket-friendly wines that are absolutely delicious, I found myself drawn to this unkown (to me) brand, Imbuko. Priced really reasonably at R39,99 at Food Lovers Market in Hilfox, I decided to try one their Sauvignon Blanc that same afternoon.

If you know me, you know that I love red wines, Cabernet sauvignon to be exact, but I found this 32 degree weather in Johannesburg a little too heavy for my reds so I did cheat (with reason) on my red wine and it was the sauvignon blanc that tickled my fancy.

Sauvgnon Blanc is a special wine to me. It is very different to any other white wine and has a more green and herbaceous flavour. When served chilled, like all white wine should be, typical sauvignon blanc has a taste most attributed to green apple and lime, depending on its maturity.

Coming back to the Imbuko wine, on the nose is a fruity blend of citrus and a hint of peach. This smell also translated into its taste as a fresh, less crisp blend of citrus and some honey. Imbuko wines is from Wellington which has grapevines that are known to flourish under tough conditions, and Wellington has just the right combination of sunshine and rain to produce some really noteworthy wines.

A clear & zesty crisp Sauvignon Blanc with aromas of green fig, citrus and whiffs of freshly cut grass makes for a balanced and enjoyable wine. Perfect partner with shellfish, calamari salad and galjoen on the coals.- imbuko.co.za

I know I haven’t done this in a while but my wine review for Imbuko wines is finally here:

Taste: 7/10

Smell: 7/10

Label: 8/10

Pocket-Friendly’ness’: 10/10

Pairing: Didn’t do one but I will definitely will since this pocket-friendly wine is one I will buy again.
